Do not cut them off before they explain themselves

Do not cut them off before they explain themselves

When trust is broken, it’s important to take a step back and assess the situation of the relationship and whether you still want to be in it. People who withdraw emotionally may claim that it’s to cool off or avoid hurtful words, but giving your partner the cold treatment is punishment in and of itself. It’s unfair to be sentenced without trial and without the opportunity to defend yourself, which can lead to resentment and flaring of tempers. This emotional immaturity can cause emotional isolation and tension in a relationship.

A person gives their heart to you when they love you. Don’t betray someone’s trust by abruptly cutting off your affection. Rather, request some time to grieve and have a calm conversation about it. By communicating that you are not going but that you need time to process the hurt before talking about it, you can transform the awkward silence into a warm one.

Even if your voice is shaking and you are letting out long, heavy sighs and sobbing, try to remain composed and talk about everything right away. This is a better method of defusing situations and keeping problems from getting worse.
