How communication affects relationships

It’s a common misconception that adultery and financial dishonesty cause marriages to fail, yet healthy partnerships may withstand infidelity and even become stronger from it. Stonewalling, scorn, defensiveness, and denouncing or criticizing are common poor habits that can destroy relationships.

Criticizing or condemning your partner demonstrates a lack of gratitude and causes a rift between you two. Recognizing that you can be the source of the issue and that no one is flawless is crucial. Being defensive is the propensity to disclaim responsibility, make excuses, or repeat oneself when faced with an error.

The practice of hiding behind the news, remaining glued to TV, or delaying the problem until later is known as stonewalling. In times of conflict, this practice hardens your heart and prevents closeness. The first step to a solution that all parties can agree upon is to examine your conscience and acknowledge that you have been stonewalling.Criticism culminates in contemplation, which then causes defensiveness, resistance, and finally contempt. An explosive fit of rage, name-calling, and comparisons may result from this, putting the partnership in danger of ending. To get past this, it’s critical to separate for a short while in order to put an end to the disagreement and guarantee a happy, loving partnership.
