Companies have been pushing for thin and light laptops and Lenovo have certainly not been left behind. With this new Slim 7 Pro X, Lenovo is pushing for a compact chassis while still offering the best performance in its class. Who is this laptop for, you may ask? Well, the borders are not as distinct as if it were an ROG laptop.

On one hand it has the RTX 3050 which can handle video editing and light 3D work. On the other hand, it has a 120Hz 3K display which leans more into gaming. Although the border line is not distinct, it can be categorized as a do-it-all machine. In this article, we are going to discuss its specs, design language, ports, webcam, display and I will finally give you my final thoughts on this machine.

Design language

Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X

Just like most premium Lenovo laptops, the quality in the slim 7 pro X is no exception. It has an all-aluminum chassis with Lenovo’s comfort edge design. This simply means that the edges are rounded and smooth to provide a comfortable typing experience as compared to sharper edges.

One of the stronghold areas in this pc is its screen. It has a 14.5-inch 3k display with a maximum output of 400nits of brightness. For indoor areas it is very much ok, but it may not be sufficient in bright outdoor light. As a rule of thumb 400-700 nits should suffice in outdoor lighting but in direct sunlight a brightness of 1000 nits and above is necessary. A great example of this would be the recently released M1 Macbook Pro 16 which outputs a maximum of 1600nits.

The 3K(3072X1920) display coupled with 78% Adobe RGB, 81% P3 color gamut and 100%sRGB color gamut automatically qualifies this laptop as a creator’s best friend. Anyone dealing with Adobe premiere pro or Adobe photoshop would appreciate this laptop a great deal. In addition to this, it is also a beast when it comes to performance but more on this later.

Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X

The last puzzle to a great display is the refresh rate and Lenovo did not let us down in this department. It has a refresh rate of 120Hz with Windows 11 adaptive refresh rate. Adaptive refresh rate simply means that the display can switch between 60Hz and 120Hz depending on the task being handled. However, it is important to also know that adaptive refresh rate in the phone space (either android or iPhone) means that the display can go as low as 10Hz in order to save on battery life.

Although it has a 120Hz display and a beefy graphics card, triple A games especially at high settings may be a challenge too difficult for this machine. At medium or low settings, it is definitely doable. Remember, this is a do-it-all laptop and it is by no means inclined toward gaming.

Performance

Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X

When it comes to performance, you can always count on this laptop depending on the task at hand. Before we proceed, although this laptop may come in the same chassis, depending on your region and specs, it comes in different names. For example, the Intel version is called the Lenovo Slim 7i pro X while the AMD version is called the Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X. On the same note, in North America it is known as the Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X while in other regions it is known as the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro X.

Aside from that, this laptop comes with either 16GB or 32GB of fast LPDDR5 RAM. The downside to the RAM on this laptop, is that it comes soldered in to the motherboard. When choosing your spec, pick one that can handle the task that you plan performing on this laptop.

In the storage area, this machine come with either a 512GB or a 1TB SSD. Although it is important to choose the option that most suites your needs, the storage is swappable meaning you can upgrade it anytime in the future.

Nvidia mobile chip

This laptop would not be complete without a beefy graphics card. Depending on the model you choose, the Intel CPUs go hand in hand with Nvidia GPUs or the intel integrated graphics card while the AMD CPUs go hand in hand with both their GPUs and Nvidia GPUs. On the Nvidia side you either get a GeForce GTX 1650 or an RTX 3050 each with 4GB of video memory. With AMD GPUs, you can either get the Nvidia options or the AMD Radeon graphics card. Either way, all these graphics cards are very capable including the integrated Xe one but the RTX 3050 would be a solid choice in my opinion.

As I conclude on the performance aspect, both the top-of-the-line Intel Core i7-12700H and the AMD Ryzen 9 6900-HS are just excellent choices if speed is your top priority. For the Intel Core i7-12700H, it comes with 6 performance cores and 8 efficient cores for a total of 14 cores. Since this CPU has been tuned to 45Watts, you should expect nothing but the best performance in this category of Ultra-light laptops.

Ports, webcam and speakers.

Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X

The port selection in this device is excellent especially for a thin and light machine such as this one. It comes with 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack and finally a HDMI 2.0 port. No complains here.

Since this laptop is leaning mainly towards productivity, the webcam as you would expect is good. Its not Macbook good but it is still usable nonetheless. It is a 1080P webcam with windows hello. Since it does not have a fingerprint sensor, the Windows Hello IR sensor will suffice for faster logins. Windows Hello is simply logins using biometrics either fingerprint or facial recognition. In the case of this laptop, it is facial recognition. As for the speakers, it comes with two 2 watts upward firing Harman speakers with Dolby atmos.

Final thoughts

Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X

This is obviously a well-crafted piece of machine. It can handle a little bit of everything from gaming to productivity tasks such as video editing. This would be a solid choice for someone who wants a little bit of everything as that is what this laptop stands for. Even if your main focus is productivity, this machine will definitely wow you. A solid competitor to this laptop in the Apple ecosystem would definitely be the Macbook Pro 14. Although it is likely to take a beating in areas such as the display and sound quality, it is definitely a worthy opponent. Drop a comment below on your thoughts on this laptop. Is it worth the price?
