The story is about a spoiled and rebellious teenager from Malibu, Poppy Moore . After a prank involving Poppy’s father’s girlfriend. He has had enough of her antics and decides to send her away to boarding school. He ships her to Abbey Mount, a strict all girls boarding school in England in hopes that she will learn to be disciplined and responsible. Poppy clashes with her peers and the school traditions. she gets on the wrong side of the head girl, Harriet Bentley.
Poppy is determined to get expelled and does everything in her power to achieve that. With the help of her roommate she executes a series of pranks. Through this they become close and form a genuine friendship. She discovers she has a real talent for lacrosse. She develops feelings for Freddie Kingsley, the son of the headmistress. Harriet gets jealous and tries to sabotage Poppy.
A fire breaks out and Poppy is blamed for it. However, during the disciplinary hearing it is discovered that Harriet started the fire. She is expelled and Poppy exonerated. Poppy leads the team to victory in the finals thus embracing her new life at Abbey Mount.
