POCAHONTAS

The film is loosely based on actual events that happened during the discovery of America. Most of the events and stories are added for the sake of the plot. The actual story is sadder than the movie.

The movie is set in the early 1600s. Pocahontas is the free spirited daughter of a Native American chief. She lives in present day Virginia. Her peaceful world is rocked when English settlers arrive. They are led by governor Ratcliffe and an adventurous soldier John Smith.

Despite the tension between their people, Pocahontas and John Smith form a bond and become friends. They learn about each other’s cultures thus challenging their own worldviews. Ratcliffe assumes the Natives are hiding gold and prepares for war to snatch it away. Pocahontas intervenes and risks her life to save John Smith. Inspired by her bravery, both groups decide to call a truce except governor Ratcliffe but he gets defeated.

Since he is wounded, John Smith returns to England. They have a tearful goodbye leaving Pocahontas behind to protect her people.
