The events occurring in Derry girls are based true life occurrence in Northern Ireland and the late 20th century. It is a coming of age comedy series set in 1990 Derry during the troubles. A group of teenagers- Erin, Clare, Michelle, Orla and James( Michelle’s cousin). They go through high school drama, crushes, family drama and chaos in the political tense environment.
They fill their environment with humor and crazy adventures. They are able to cope in a war filled environment. The shown explores teen relationships. The teenagers are able to stick together through the school scandals, wild adventures and family mishaps. The series finale concludes with the group turning eighteen and are able to vote on the Good Friday Agreement, marking an historic shift towards peace.
The shows has a bit of history in it. If you are able to differentiate fiction and non fiction, you will gain a bit of knowledge about the Irish War. It is a nostalgic show that is available on Netflix.
