The series spans only two seasons which is a bit disappointing since the stories in each episodes get more interesting. A movie came out in 2009 to make up for the premature ending of the TV series. You can watch on Netflix in some regions.
Georgia Lass is a disinterested and disaffected 18 year-old who quits college after one day. She dies suddenly when a toilet seat from a falling space station crashes on her during her lunch break. She does not move on to the after life and becomes a Grim reaper tasked with collecting the souls of people who are about tomdie. She struggles with the nature of her job and cannot stomach the idea of doing it. She screws up her job a couple times before getting the hang of it.
She joins a group of reapers led by Rube and other quirky reapers with their own backstories. They all struggle to maintain a normal life while guiding the newly dead. Georgia observes her grieving family from a distance while struggling with her emotions. She helps them sometimes with interferes with her life and theirs and causes trouble sometimes.
The show pokes fun of death. It blends dark comedy with heartfelt moments and the meaning of life and mortality.
