The Rookie: Feds is part of The Rookie universe as a spin off. It follows Simone Clark a former high school guidance counselor who joins the FBI academy in her 40s. This makes her the oldest FBI rookie is history. Simone Clark (Niecy Nash) first made an appearance in season 4 of the rookie episode 19. The Mid Wilshire LA division enlists the help of the FBI to fellow suspected of blowing up a local power station. The suspect is later discovered to be one of Simone’s former students.
Simone is recruited to the FBI. Her age and unconventional background make her stand out. She begs to join a special unit led by Special Agent Matthew Garza. The task force is supposed to be more flexible and fast in solving crimes. She is assigned to Carter Hope who is her training officer. The other members of the unit are Brendon Acres, a former actor and his training officer, Laura Stensen, behavioral analyst.
Each episode mostly focuses on the unit solving cases that lead to high crimes such as cybercrimes, murders, political conspiracies and kidnappings. They bring their specialized skills to the table which help them solve the cases efficiently. Simone has a different and unique way of thinking, her past as a guidance counselor and streets smarts and wits. Her age and experience is a great and unexpected resource.
There is only one season which is disappointing. The second season was cancelled due to the economy’s impact on streaming wars and the writers strike.
What we can learn from the Rookie: feds is that it is never too late to reinvent your life. Simone never changes her self to fit in, she adjustes the place to her standards even though it takes a long time. You can find a new family as long as their is love and trust. It is crucial to balance passion and professionalism.
