Snow White and the seven dwarfs was Walt Disney first big project. It was released in 1937 in 2D animation. Since then many remakes of Snow White have been made. The original Snow White book was written by a German author named Jacob Grimm.
Skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood and hair as black as ebony is how Snow White is described as. You would she would be a vampire but she was a kind and beautiful princess. She unfortunately lost her parents when she was young and lives with her resentful stepmother, the Evil Queen. Her stepmother is obsessed with being the fairest of them all. She is jealous of Snow White’s beauty and orders and huntsman to take her to the forest to kill her.
The huntsman cannot bring himself to kill her and instructs her to run away. He kills a deer and brings the Evil Queen its heart in place of Snow White’s heart. Lost and afraid, Snow White stu, bles upon a small cottage belonginging to seven dwarfs. The dwarfs, Happy, Dopey, Sneezy, Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy and Bashful work at a diamond mine and they let her stay with them. She brings love, warmth and happiness to their household.
Convinced that Snow White is dead, the Evil Queen inquires from the magic mirror, “Mirror mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them wall?” The mirror shows that Snow White is alive in the forest. The Evil Queen uses dark magic and disguises herself. She tricks Snow White to eat a poisoned apple which causes her to fall into a deep sleep. The dwarfs chase after the Queen causing her to fall to her death. A prince passes by, falls in love with her and kisses her hence breaking the spell and awakens her. The story ends in a happily ever after.
Even though Snow White is an ancient story many of its themes and teachings still apply today. Jealousy and evil is a slippery road. One thing that is misunderstood about Snow White is her goodness and innocence that make her stronger and a likeable character. Beauty and kindness go together and their association leads to triumph.
