Charlie Bucket is a hopeful and kind hearted boy. He lives with his family in a small run down house. Not far off is the big and mysterious Wonka Chocolate factory owned by the recluse Willy Wonka. No one is seen going out or in, only trucks filled with chocolate bars.
Charlie lucks changes the day Willy Wonka announces a worldwide contest. He hid five golden ticket inside his chocolate bars. The winners will get a full tour of his factory and the lucky one among the five will receive a special prize. Charlie finds a dollar while working and goes to buy a Wonka bar. Despite all odds, Charlie finds the golden ticket and runs home to show his family. He decides to take his grandfather with him on the tour. His grandfather was a former worker of the Wonka factory.
The day of the tour arrives, Charlie and the other four winners arrived at the gates of the factory. The gates open and the five and their guardians enter the factory. Inside the factory, the children are amazed by the different inventions and magical rooms. The first room is the river of chocolate where one of them falls into. Augustus Gloop is sucked into a chocolate sucking tube.
The four continue on their journey on a boat steered by Oompa Loompas. Another child, Violet Beauregarde chews a experimental gum that makes her swell into a blueberry. They continue their tour of the factory. Verica Salt sees the squirrels and decides to take one for her self. The squirrels throw her down the garbage chute. Mike Teavee decides he wants to spend time in a television and gets shrunk by a teleportation device.
When Willy Wonka(Johnny Depp) sees that Charlie is the only remaining child, he reveals the special price which is his factory. Charlie inherits the factory. In the 2005 film, Charlie helps Willy connect with his father.
Charlie and the chocolate has teachable themes such as kindness, honesty, humility and patience. It teaches that good character are richly rewarded. Selfishness, greed, arrogance and laziness lead to one’s downfall. The factory is a metaphor for life
