Pre eclampsia is a serious medical condition that occur about midway through pregnancy (after 20 weeks ). People with pre eclampsia experience high blood pressure, protein in their pee,swelling , headaches and blurred vision.
Pre eclampsia is a serious blood pressure condition that develop during pregnancy.People with pre eclampsia often have high blood pressure (hypertension)and high levels of protein in their urine (proteinuria).Pre eclampsia usually develop after the 20th weeks of pregnancy.Pre eclampsia can also affect other organs in your body and cause kidney and liver damage ,brain and other serious side effects.
SYMPTOMS AND CAUSE
1.High blood pressure.
2.Protein in your pew and retaining water (this can cause weight gain and swelling).
3.Headaches .
4.Blury vision or light sensitivity.
5.Dark spots appearing in your vision.
6.Upper right side abdominal pain.
7.Swelling in your hands ,ankles and face (edema ).
8 .Shortness of breath.
SEVERE PRE ECLAMPSIA SIGNS
*Hypertension emergency ;blood pressure is 160/110mmhg or higher.
*Decrease in kidney or liver function.
*Fluid in your lungs (pulmonary edeme).
*Low blood platelets level; Thrombocytopenia.
Not producing or producing very little pee .
RISK FOR PRE ECLAMPSIA
* History of high blood pressure, kidney disease or diabetes.
*Expecting twins,triplets or more .
*Autoimmune condition like lupus.
*Pre eclampsia in a past pregnancy.
COMPLICATION
*Seizures.
*Eclampsia.
*Coma.
*Stroke
Pre eclampsia can cause HELLP syndrome (hemolysis elevated liver enzymes) and low platelet count.This happen when preeclampsia damages your liver and red blood cells and interfere with blood clotting.
COMPLICATION TO THE FETUS
* Premature birth.
*Low birth weight.
*Placental abruption.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
1.Excess protein in urine (proteinuria)or other signs of kidney problems.
2.Decreased levels of platelets in blood (thrombocytopenia).
3.Severe headaches.
4.Changes in vision, including temporary loss of vision , blurred vision or light sensitivity.
5.Increased liver enzymes that indicate liver problems .
6.Shortness of breath,caused by fluid in the lungs .
7.Pain in the upper belly,usually under the ribs on the right side .
8.Nausea and vomiting.
RISK FACTORS
*Pre eclampsia in a previous pregnancy.
*Being pregnant with more than one baby .
*Chronic high blood pressure (hypertension).
*Type 1 and type 2 diabetes before pregnancy.
*Kidney disease.
*Auto immune disorder.
*Use of in vitro fertilization.
DIAGNOSIS
It diagnosis of pre eclampsia happens if you have high blood pressure after 20 weeks of pregnancy and at least one of the following findings;
*Protein in your urine (proteinuria)indicating an impaired kidney
* Other signs of kidney problems.
*A low blood platelets count .
*Elevated liver enzymes showing an impaired liver .
*Fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema).
*New headache’s that don’t go away after taking pain medication.
*New visions disturbances .
