A Revie of the Movie ‘Rango’

A Revie of the Movie ‘Rango’

Animated movies have a special capability to teach moral lessons to their audience. The inhuman nature of the characters allows the viewer to enjoy the movies effortlessly. Rango is the best animated movie I have watched so far. Its main character is a lizard, named Rango, who desires to be a Hero. He plays theatre with a few inanimate objects in his glass box. One day, the pet owner is on a highway in Missouri when an accident occurs. The lizard with his inanimate toys are thrown off the vehicle into the desert and the vehicle drives off, leaving the pet on the highway. The lizard has never been in the outside world and never seen the sun or the desert. A hedgehog had tried to close the road and had caused the vehicle to swerve. The hedgehog calls out the confused lizard to help him. The lizard approaches the hog and attempts to help but fails. Another vehicle almost hits the lizard. The highway is a busy road. The lizard is bounced off the road onto oncoming vehicles. It ends up by the roadside panting for breath. The hedgehog manages to get back by the roadside and advises the lizard to seek a town known as Dirt. The hedgehog explains that he is on a quest to cross over to the other side and seek out the Spirit of the West, who drives an Alabaster Carriage. The lizard is puzzled by all that. He walks off into the Mojave Desert to seek out Dirt with the hope of finding some water there. What follows is a hilarious unfolding of events. First, the Lizard has to survive the hazards of the deserts, which include thirst and being preyed on by the desert hawk. Once the lizard gets into town, he realizes that in a new place, he can create a new identity without fear of being labelled a fraud as no one inside the town of Dirt knows him. He chooses the name Rango, which was part of a name of a brand of cactus juice popular in Dirt. He fabricates tales of his past feats which creates a character larger than the life in Dirt. The characters in Dirt are amazed at Rango, they almost worship him. Luck is on Rango’s side as he manages to kill the towns major predator, the hawk, on the first day. He becomes a hero overnight. He is crowned the town’s Sheriff and wastes no time to bask in his new role. His Sheriff skills are wanting, but Dirtonians are so desperate to have a hero to notice that their Sheriff is a fraud. Also, the town has a big water problem. The mayor of the town had a massive scheme to dry out the area to force the people to sell out their land. The new Sheriff with the help of Ms Beans, an outstanding character, set out to uncover the mayor’s deceit. In the process, Rattlesnake Jake, a villain who is called in by the mayor to scare off the Sheriff, exposes the web of lies told by Rango. However, Rango miraculously becomes awakened. He decides that he cannot walk out of his story. He goes back to Dirt and works hard to get water for his people where he succeeds with the help of his friends and a bit of luck. He becomes the true town hero especially when he gets rid of the evil mayor and wins over the villain Rattlesnake Jake. The movie is exceptional as it captures what we all go through in our lives, the search for identity and purpose. Rango shows that it is possible and all we have to do is take the first step into the unknown and the rest will unfold. If the lizard had not walked into the desert, he would not have become a hero and he would not have found love. The second lesson from this movie is that life consist of a turn of events that we cannot imagine yet. Thus, we need to be excited at what life has for us no matter the dullness of our current circumstances.

To the writers and producers of Rango, I express my gratitude. If I had failed to watch this movie, I would have missed half of my life.
