No man is an island, so they say. As a child who grew up so fast,I never really got to understand that part. I have learned that you cannot stand alone, no matter how strong you are. No matter what power you think you have, the cards of life will deal with you properly, and you’re going to need someone to get you out. When you are younger, you think older people don’t know a thing. You think they are suffocating you because they have nothing else to do. So you rebel, and no matter how many times they try to tell you to watch your step, you think, What do they know? Well, you keep on the path, and many years later, you are stuck. And you don’t know what to do because it hurts to have been wrong, and it hurts more to lose all those years. So you stay and do everything to make it better. You wear make-up on occasions just to hide your sorrows, and if you are a man, you get flashy cars to hide your pain. Some people get a side piece to treat their egos. If it’s a career choice that went left, you take up a business that you have passion for to heal your wounds. The worst thing is not even the pain that comes with staying; it is the fact that every day you make up more lies to cover up why you feel the way you do. You wake up every day, look at your children’s faces, and hold on to the dream. The mental damage is so extensive that even you can’t tell you are hurting. Here is a fun fact: you don’t have to be a super person; you can talk to someone. You can share what you are going through. The shame you are feeling is overwhelming, but trust me when I say it’s only as strong as the power you give it. Accept that you messed up, accept that it was a wrong choice, and accept that they are your mistakes. Once you do, you will realize that it won’t have any power anymore. Wear your consequences with pride; wear your scars with honor because only you can rise above. Wake up each day and take away the power your past has over you. As soon as you do, you will attract amazing people, and your life will begin to flow. And those scars you hate so much, you will start to realize the lessons they taught you can be useful. The good things that come to you from now on,you will cherish, and then you can salvage what’s left of your dreams. Wear your scars with honor, and no one can ever use your choices to hurt you. You aren’t alone; you just need to find your niche, and you can rise above.
